Cap d'Agde Photos & Pictures - South of France

If you landed here thinking you were going to find copious amounts of photographs of the naturist beach at Cap d'Agde, then I guess you might be a little disappointed. Didn't go anywhere near the naturist beach, but I did have a lovely time exploring some of the other beaches and the marina, which was enormous by the way. Sorry there is nothing else enormous to discuss.

So let's get it out of the way, yes Cap d'Agde is the centre of naturism in the South of France and as you drive in towards the town centre there is a huge yellow road sign dedicated to that location alone. What it does is to direct you past the main town and on to the outskirts away from the crowds that gather in the marina to admire the boats and eat at the restaurants.

From what I could see of the beach, from a viewpoint at the top of the hill between La Plagette and the Plage de la Grande Conque where the memorial site for the 'Combattants de l'armee d'Afrique' is located, it seemed it was a very nice sunny beach with lots of sand. I didn't have my zoom lens fitted, so those are the only details I can share with you. But because I am magnanimous in nature I have provided a link for you to find out more about the Village Naturiste which funnily enough is a small town in its own right.

Time to move on now me thinks, we were there because Cap d'Agde is located conveniently close to the airport at Bezieres, so close in fact that the airport shares the names Bezieres and Cap d'Agde equally in its description.

We went there to pick up our daughter and grandchildren who had flown down from Germany, another place where naturism is highly celebrated, whoops there I go again.

Moving on for a second time, it was an early morning flight, so we decided to take the opportunity to explore the offerings of Cap d'Agde and make the most of our trip down to the coastal area. It was only about 1 1/2 hours from our gite in France so a comfortable distance for a bit of a day out, knowing we could still be back at the house for a drink on the terrace before dinner. Even if we spent a few hours on the beach and took a look around the town.

It was one of the places we were keen to visit because it was the last in a few seaside resorts along the Mediterranean coast that was in an easy traveling distance from us, that we hadn't actually got to.

It was, as it turned out, well worth the visit. Having now been, it is up in the top 3 of our rankings along with Collioure which is south of Perpignan and Gruissan near to Narbonne.

All 3 resorts, although they share a common coastline, are significantly different. Collioure is the real 'oldy worldy' option, very quaint and pretty with a pebble beach. Gruissan offers a mix of new and old with a small marina and new town that has grown up just beyond the old circular fortified town.

Cap d'Agde appears to be more of a new resort, although there is an old town there as well which is away from the beach areas and not immediately obvious. But it is still a lovely place, the water is crystal clear and when we arrived it was a deep inky blue. We found It was very easy to just while away a few hours there, enjoy the sun and chill out wandering around the marina.

I would highly recommend it, we didn't actually go into the town. With grandchildren in tow it didn't really feel like an option. But when we get back down to the area we will take a look and find out if we did it a disservice by not visiting this last time. I'll let you know.
